Independent Oxford Alliance gained several seats at a turbulent local election for Oxford City Council.

The 2024 election results on Friday threw up a few shocks along the way while others retained seats in wards across the city.

Labour ended the day with 11 seats which means they now have 20 overall but saw several seats lost for the party.

As a result, Labour has failed to regain its majority on Oxford City Council.

The Liberal Democrats won five seats meaning that they have nine seats overall in the city council.

Arguably the story of the day was a surge for the Independent Oxford Alliance who won as many as four seats on the day having previously had none.

The Green Party attained four seats on the day taking their overall collection at the council to eight members.

Elsewhere there was one gain for the independent non-grouped members who now have a total of seven seats at the council.

Lastly both the Conservatives and the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition won no seats on Friday.
